For the next Super Lettore strip the script introduces a new pet character named Smilla. He/She’s Half cat half turtle.

Out of the 100 or so icons i’ve done so far this one’s definitely my favourite. More coming soon
Second Super Lettore comic for Tropicodellibro.
It was nice to do this one because there’s a few silent panels. I’ve been looking more into them and think there’s a lot to expand on for my dissertation. Literature Professor Nick Mount makes an interesting point that silent panels in comics do something other mediums cant, slow down the passage of time.
Rather than the usual action-to-action mechanic panels are read by, silent panels can present the same period of time at different points. Because there’s no speech there’s effectively no sense of time passing. These panels also leave it somewhat to the reader to decide how long they will dwell on them before moving on.

First page of my new comic, Disconnected. I really stretched the colouring process here, spent a very long time deciding on the approach. I initially used a plethora of pastel colours like in my Networker piece (the piece that inspired this book) and while it looked nice, the sequence was harder to read.
I’m beginning to understand more in terms of colour and general illustration in comics that the visual is to compliment the narrative. It’s meant to boost the story, and when it comes down to it the communication of story should trump prettiness.

Final ditto poster, essentially a modified version of my John Rylands entry

New beginnings. Some of you might of wondered what that little plug character I posted a while ago was for, and well he’s the centre of my new comic! I’ve had the ideas and plot bouncing around and slowly growing in my head now for 2 or three weeks and I think its finally time to put pen to paper. This is a rough of the initial page ideas. Confused? Hopefully you wont be for too long. I do already have the title and that will be all for now, “Disconnected”
Manchester Print Fair 29/04/12

Despite myself looking rather gloomy in this photo the Manchester Print Fair last Sunday went pretty well. I sold some books and prints, and also the last minute Ghost World print. Everyone seemed to favour the Laziness book. Whether thats because of the lower price or content i’m not sure, but people definitely got a kick out of it which was nice to see.
It was just rewarding in general to watch peoples reactions to my work, and the idea of them taking them away to read and enjoy is a great feeling. Making illustrations and comics is one thing, but sharing it with other people and letting it out a little into the world gives me that little bit more motivation to continue with my work.

Quick idea for the 3rd and final spread of the zine
